Radiosurgery

What is radiosurgery?

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a focused radiation treatment for the treatment of tumors, diseases, or functional and vascular pathologies. It is generally successful from the first session, and in some cases, up to five sessions.

This treatment was developed to avoid open surgery, primarily for treating cranial lesions. It is therefore colloquially described as "surgery without a scalpel," as it is a focused radiation treatment that is noninvasive and painless.

The main objective of radiosurgery is to concentrate high doses of radiation on the treatment volume and limit it to surrounding healthy tissue. This requires high dosimetric and mechanical precision during treatment.

Radiosurgery also helps improve the outcome of certain radiation therapy treatments, as in these cases, it is possible to apply higher doses with greater precision, thus avoiding damage to healthy tissue.

What is it?

Inmunoterapía

Immunotherapy is a treatment that uses the body's immune system to fight cancer. The immune system is made up of cells, organs and proteins that help defend the body from infections and other diseases. Immunotherapy can stimulate or strengthen the natural defenses of the immune system to attack the cancer cells with higher intensity or effectiveness. You can also use substances produced by the body or in a laboratory to improve the immune response to cancer. Immunotherapy can treat many types of cancer, either alone or in combination with other treatments, such as chemotherapy.

What is it?

Targeted therapy

Targeted therapy is a type of treatment that acts on the proteins that control the growth, division, and the spread of cancer cells. These proteins can be altered by changes in the DNA of the neoplastic cells. To find the targeted therapy appropriate, tests may be done to identify the specific genetic changes that contribute to cancer development. Targeted therapy can also be used in combination with other treatments, such as immunotherapy and chemotherapy.
